Overseas Chinese Culture

At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming-kuo, the decendants of Kinmen migrated to Southeast Asia through Xiamen to work. At that time, Baroque-style buildings were very popular in Southeast Asia, so many Baroque-style buildings were built on Kinmen. For the Overseas Chinese of Kinmen, returning to their hometown is something to be proud of, and "the most direct way to show this is through the architecture of their houses, so they hired local painters to draw buildings that were popular at the time. After returning to their hometown, they rebuilt the buildings according to the drawings in the western style to show off the glory of the family.

"Taishan County Overseas Chinese Township Chronicle" also includes, "Three important events for overseas Chinese returning home: taking a bride, building a house and buying land"; building a big house, an ancestral hall, a school and a tomb is the completion of an important event in life and is called "Quanfu"(total fortune). And "a big house full of family members, the ancestral hall where ancestors are worshipped, the study hall set up as a school, and the renovated ancestral cemetery ": This is the allusion to what the people of Kinmen call "bight past prosperous future."

Among the famous Western-style buildings is the Deyue Tower in Shuitou, whose name comes from a proverb: "A building near the water gets the moon first". In ancient times, Kinmen was often haunted by pirates and easily attracted pirates, so these western-style buildings were built with special emphasis on defensive functions. Jinshui Elementary School, located on the side, is a representative building of a school built by overseas Chinese investors. It was the first time that Western Baroque architectural style was introduced into Kinmen. The corridor formed by western- style columns, the western-style hilltop at the main entrance is embedded with an angel sculpture symbolizing purity, and an eagle clay sculpture that expects students to spread their wings and soar. When it was completed, it became the most famous and innovative Fanzaicuo (foreigner's house) Primary School on the island.

The sea breeze blowing on Kinmen writes paragraphs of eloquent battlefield sentiments, walking through the country roads, looking back is far away, rebuilding begins in the present. Maja noodles have been handed down for four generations in Kinmen. From the ground up, we have worked hard to establish Maja noodles and create the best brand of Kinmen Misua. With the steps of learning with humility, we move forward bravely; embracing the spirit of not being afraid of difficulties nor hardships, starting from the basics and professionally entering the industry.

Inheriting the contribution of our ancestors to the hometown culture of overseas Chinese, loving Kinmen and caring for this land, the characteristics of the western-style buildings are integrated with the exterior of the building through the form of architecture with classical corridors, columns, wall brick carvings, gable decorations and clay sculptures, etc.

Duplicating the prosperous and popular styles of the past onto today's buildings, indirectly recalling the nostalgia and reverence that ancestors had for Kinmen. "The sounds of gunshots and bombing of yesterday, Kinmen City being built today, Maja Misua being passed down for a century, and the hometown culture of overseas Chinese writes a lifetime." The construction of Western-style buildings and the memory of our ancestors are just the beginning of the story, now cultural customs are our unshakable legend. We are willing to take further action to contribute to Kinmen, build and market Kinmen, to make Kinmen the tourist attraction with the greatest potential in the Taiwan Strait. Islands and to be their best holiday resort.
